What does Edit PDF do?
Edit PDF lets you select supported existing text in one PDF and replace it in place. Untouched PDF content and the position and style of supported edited text are kept. Unsupported glyphs, text inside complex Form XObjects, and scanned text without OCR cannot be edited this way. The tool does not add images, shapes or freehand annotations. Some embedded subset fonts cannot encode replacement text.
How to use Edit PDF
- 1Choose one PDF
Open Edit PDF and select a single PDF. Unlock it first if needed. Scanned pages need OCR before any text objects exist to select.
- 2Select existing text in preview
Click a supported text object. If none appear, the page may be a scan, a subset font, or text inside a complex Form XObject.
- 3Enter replacement text
Type the replacement text. Position and style are kept where the font can encode the new glyphs. Unsupported glyphs will not draw.
- 4Download and compare
Check each edit at the real zoom you will share. If a letter becomes a box, the embedded subset font cannot encode that replacement — rephrase or keep the original.

When not to use this tool
Do not use Edit PDF as a full page designer, as OCR, or as a way to insert new pictures. PDF to Word is the path when you need a DOCX you can rewrite freely, with its own layout limits.
If processing fails
If no text can be selected, run OCR PDF for scans or confirm the file is not only outline art. Replacement that uses missing glyphs fails visually. Encrypted files must be unlocked first.
Privacy boundary
The PDF and replacement strings stay in this browser. They are not sent to a PDF Smart Kit application server. Close the page to clear the edits from memory.
